Housing Support ServiceFamilies and young people often face many barriers to achieving safe, secure and affordable accommodation. Our Supported Accommodation Service works with families and young people to enable them to successfully obtain long term housing and achieve their personal goals. Kyabra provides medium term accommodation for families and young people who are homeless or facing housing difficulties. A Resource Worker engages with those we house to assist them in working towards their picture of the future. Our Resource Workers can offer:
Our accommodation gives families a stable, safe place to live and an opportunity to work on issues which may be affecting them. Rent is charged on the basis of income and tenants pay their own electricity, gas and telephone charges. Our houses are not furnished, however Resource Workers may be able to link people with other agencies that can help them acquire the furniture and household goods needed. Pets are not permitted and will disqualify applicants from any allocation process. When vacancies occur, applications are taken over the telephone and all applications are considered on a needs basis. To find out more about Kyabra's Supported Accommodation Service or to enquire about vacancies, please phone 3373 9499.

National Shelter is a national peak housing organisation which aims to improve housing access, affordability, appropriateness, safety and security for people who are on low-incomes, or who face disadvantage in the housing system. National Shelter works towards this goal by influencing government policy and action, and by raising community awareness in relation to housing. The Department of Housing plays an important role in providing direct and indirect housing assistance, and in influencing the overall housing system within Queensland to improve people's lives through housing. For those people who are unable to be readily housed in the broad housing system, the Department aims to deliver a range of housing assistance measures. The Residential Tenancies Authority is a self-funding statutory authority, operating on income generated from interest earned on the bonds it holds as custodian. The Act applies to people renting flats, houses, caravans, units, townhouses, mobile homes and houseboats in private, public and community-managed rental accommodation. The RTA also looks after the rights and responsibilities for residents and service providers of supported accommodation such as hostels, aged care rentals and boarding houses.
